Hoptoberfest: A hops and brewery grains workshop

CW-RP-3-Hoptoberfest3EAST AURORA, NY — With partial funding by the Farm Credit Northeast AgEnhancement program, Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) of Erie County hosted a two-day workshop taught by New York State hops specialist Steve Miller; NWNY Dairy Team Crop Specialist Bill Verbeten; and Chris Gerling, extension sssociate at the Cornell Geneva Farm.

Vermont finishes fourth in National 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl

CN-RP-1-VermontBURLINGTON, VT — The Vermont 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl Team’s combined knowledge of dairy nutrition, herd health, breeding and genetics, calf raising, dairy marketing and other dairy-related topics resulted in a fourth place-finish in national competition.

The four-member team competed Nov. 7-8 at the 35th annual North American 4-H Invitational Dairy Quiz Bowl in Louisville, KY. The event, which attracted 14 teams from across the country, was held at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center. [Read more…]

The Bone Farm

Central Vermont’s rolling hills make for comfortable pasture for the Jersey cows on the Bone Farm in South Rygate.

Named a Vermont Century Farm, the farm is operated by David Bone with assistance from his wife, Jennifer, his Uncle Walter and three of his four children. The youngest, Evelyn, is only seven months old, but looks like she wants to be helping soon as she rides on her mom’s back.
